It’s a long standing tradition here in the states. Hence the expression, “We’ll see what the poles have to say about that!” <BR/><BR/>Little known fact: The term “poll” is actually a misspelling of the word “pole,” which is in reference to the long standing tradition of having both the north and south pole give their opinion on any given topic. It is both a symbolic and physical gesture signifying the embracing of the idea that both sides of the issue need to be heard.<BR/><BR/>In regards to Cadiz’s comment, due to their nickname, the pole’s AKA Polish people, are always the preliminary step in going to the north and south pole. Sort of like primaries. They are used to gauge the general feeling of an issue before it actually goes to the north and south poles for official vote.<BR/><BR/>Hope that clears everything up. I can see why you might be a little confused at first and would be inclined to think I’m an imbecile, but hopefully I’ve alleviated those fears. It was equally delicious.
